Coimbra, 17-19 julho 2023.http://hdl.handle.net/10400.19/8581Radon gas produced in the radioactive decay series of uranium present in rocks and soils may accumulate inside overlying buildings, deteriorating indoor air quality due to the increased risk of exposure to ionizing radiation. Since the area of Gouveia is classified as having a high susceptibility of exposure to radon, this work aims to determine the indoor radon concentration (IRC) of public buildings in this municipality. Measurements were made in 39 rooms in 4 different buildings with passive detectors (CR-39), over a year. The results reveal that the accumulation of radon inside the buildings depends on the nature of the geological materials occurring in the studied areas, the seasonality of climatic conditions, and structural characteristics of the buildings.
