- Pilgrims' Opinions About Pilgrimage Routes: The Specific Case of the Portuguese Inner Way of Santiago de CompostelaPublication . Martinho, Vítor; Nunes, João; Pato, Lúcia; de Matos, Liliana; Pipa, Carlos Miguel; Rodrigues, Luís Maia; Topete, BeatrizThis research intends to collect information from the pilgrims about the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela, focusing on the Portuguese Inner Way. For that, a questionnaire was implemented in September 2022 to collect data from the opinion of a random sample of seven pilgrims. This information was analysed through qualitative approaches following Atlas.ti procedures. The main findings obtained highlight that the Portuguese Inner Way requires some physical preparation, considering the effort needed for some parts of the itinerary. In this context, alternative paths are proposed for some parts of the route. In addition, the lack of pilgrims’ logistic services and the need for more effective preservation of the itineraries are also suggested. The catholic sanctuary of Senhora dos Milagres in Pindelo dos Milagres may be a suggestion to become an assistance point.
- Current Pilgrimage Routes: Considering Historical Records to Rethink ThemPublication . Martinho, Vítor; Nunes, João; Pato, Lúcia; de Matos Castilho, Liliana Andrade; Pipa, Carlos Miguel; Rodrigues, Luís Maia; Lopes Almeida, Beatriz TopeteThis study intends to analyse the several dimensions of pilgrimage routes, highlighting insights that may be interesting outcomes for researchers, policymakers, pilgrims and organisations related to the spaces covered by these ways. To achieve these aims, a systematic literature review based on bibliographic data was considered, as well as the assessment of historical records. The analysis of historical records, namely those from Roman times, is important to identify the origins of the routes and, in this way, better justify their itineraries. As main insights, it is worth mentioning the importance of the Ways of Santiago de Compostela for these contexts associated with the pilgrimage routes. This highlights that some of this knowledge may be considered as a benchmark to show the dimensions of other routes related to other pilgrimages, such as those related to the shrines of Mary, Our Lady
