Abstract(s)
This Final Report of Internship has two fundamental points, the critical reflection on the practices developed in the stages of the First Cycle of Basic Education and Pre-School Education and the case study on the adaptation of young children to the day-care context. The first point refers to the activities developed in the course of the internships, reflections on pedagogical practices, in order to improve performance as a future education professional. The second point refers to the study carried out in the context of day care, focusing on the adaptation of children to day care. With this study we can understand how the adaptation process is carried out in a given institution and the children's reaction to the environment. The work was carried out in a nursery on the island of a Portuguese archipelago. The study involved five children from 7 months to 10 months of age. The research developed is of qualitative content, rather the case study. To collect data, several instruments were used, direct observation of the five children at the day care center, and the semistructured interview with the parents after the observations. We also use the Adult Empowerment Scale as a way to understand the interaction of the two Educational Assistants with children. At the end of the study it was possible to understand the adaptation process carried out in the nursery. The children have shown to adapt easily to the context, however there is a lack of diversity and intentionality in the activities proposed by the Assistants.
