Abstract(s)
The use of Information and Communication Technologies is increasingly common in family life, both for children and adults. They are increasingly present in family dynamics and in the different routines of life (e.g. at mealtimes, before going to bed, when socialising with family and friends). These technologies offer multiple possibilities for communication and expression and, as a result, children have been using these tools for learning and entertainment activities. In this context, this study, whose theme is: ‘The impact of Information and Communication Technologies on family dynamics: perception of parents/carers’, has the guiding objective of understanding how technologies affect family dynamics, considering the perception of parents/carers. The study is quantitative and non-experimental. A questionnaire survey was used as the data collection instrument. The convenience sample involved 53 parents/carers of children aged between 6 and 12 attending primary and secondary school. After analysing the data, the main results show that ICT does not seem to have a negative influence on family dynamics, since there were no significant differences in parents' perceptions of ICT according to their age, educational level or place of residence. On the other hand, it should be noted that parents with higher education have a more favourable perception of ICT. It was possible to emphasise that ICT has not negatively changed the families' routines and moments of conviviality
