Abstract(s)
This study intends to analyse the relationships between quality of parents and peers attachment, antisocial behavior, and internal and external shame memories, by studying the behavior of these variables according to gender, household, age and time of institutionalization of the participants. The sample consists of 48 adolescents, 14 to 17 aged, from both genders, institutionalized in therapeutic community. Participants responded to the Inventory of Adolescent Attachment (IPPA), Deviant Behavior Variety Scale (DBVS), Internal Shame Scale (ISS-A) and External Shame Scale (OASB-A), adapted and validated for the portuguese population, to assess, respectively, mother, father and peer attachment, involvement in antisocial behavior, internal shame and external shame. The results obtained allowed to conclude that there are significant diferences in parents attachment according to the household. The father absence is not correlated to the pattern of mother attachment, but is associated with an insecure father attachment. Adolescents who have been institutionalized longer in the therapeutic community practice less antisocial behavior and have less internal shame. There are more significant correlation with internal and external shame in peer attachment, which demonstrates the importance of peers, compared to parents, in the emotional regulation of adolescents.
