Abstract Introduction: The professional internship resulted in this report, the purpose of which was to develop knowledge and acquire skills to obtain the title of specialist nurse and a master's degree in Maternal, Obstetric and Gynecological Health. The research component aimed to understand the meaning attributed by nurses specializing in maternal and obstetric health nursing to caring for couples with a pregnancy loss. Objectives: To critically and reflectively analyze the activities that took place during the six internships in order to acquire competencies as a Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing Specialist; To understand the meaning attributed by maternal and obstetric health nursing specialists to caring for couples with a pregnancy loss. Participants and methods: Within the scope of the professional internship report, a descriptive methodology was followed, with a consequent critical-reflective analysis of the activities that achieved the objectives proposed for each of the internships, taking as a standard the competency profile of the Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing Specialist and the quality standards in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing, as well as scientific evidence. As for the research component, a qualitative, phenomenological-hermeneutic study was carried out, based on Max Van Manen's assumptions, and approved by the Ethics Committee. Using snowball sampling, 14 participants were selected for semi structured interviews. The data collected was analyzed phenomenologically using MAXQDA 24 software. Results: This report highlights the evolution of common and specific competencies in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing, in the context of the Master's Degree in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing, contributing to the training of highly qualified professionals in this specialized area. Through the internships, the specialized skills in caring for women within the family and community were consecutively improved, with a focus on respect for their individuality and respect for their expressed wishes, in line with the current practices of Obstetric Nurses. In this context, the promotion of specialized nursing based on scientific evidence, together with the acquisition of master's degree competencies, becomes necessary for advancement and excellence in professional practice. As a result of the research carried out, the analysis of the testimonies of the 14 Specialist Nurses in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing revealed the following categories: "Improvements proposed by the Obstetric Nurse when caring for couples with gestational loss", "Attitudes of the Obstetric Nurse when the couple receives the news of gestational loss", "Constraints of the Obstetric Nurse when caring for couples with gestational loss", "Strategies of the Obstetric Nurse to overcome the constraints when caring for couples with gestational loss", "Feelings experienced by the Obstetric Nurse when caring for couples with gestational loss". Conclusion: The provision of specialized maternal and obstetric care reduces the risk of maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. Commitment to excellence in nursing is intrinsically linked to continuous professional development, a central aspect of nurses' lifelong learning/training. This development is vital for maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills, essential in the ever-evolving healthcare sector. The evidence from the research suggests that there is an emerging need for improvements in caring for couples with a pregnancy loss, both at the developmental level of the obstetric nurse, functionally, such as standardizing procedures in caring for couples with a pregnancy loss while respecting their singularities, and structurally, such as adapting care according to the couple's feedback. These could be possible strategies for obstetric nurses to overcome the constraints of caring for couples with a pregnancy loss and guarantee them excellent care. Keywords: Obstetric Nurse; Pregnancy; Bereavement; Nursing Care.
