Abstract With this research we decided to study the effect relaxing and stimulating music had in the number of indiscipline situations, expressed by our students during the practical lessons of Educação Visual e Tecnológica (EVT). We tried to understand whether the expression of unruly situations, presented by the students during the lessons where they were not subjected to music, showed differences when compared with the cases of indiscipline in the classrooms where the same students were under the influence of music. Thus, this research work aimed to understand whether the hearing of different types of music, during the practical lessons of EVT, decreases the incidents of indiscipline in the classroom. To this end, we proceeded to conduct a study of comparative cases, implemented in two classes, through action research, in which students were subjected to hearing music from two distinct types, relaxing and stimulating. Thus, we had as participants in this research fifty-one students belonging to two different classes of which we are teachers. This investigation was divided into three stages, the first one in which the classes took place in the absence of music, a second that the students listened to relaxing music and a third where they listened to stimulating music. Over these three moments, which always took place during the practical classes, the students' bad behaviours were observed and recorded in a grid, this being the first instrument used for data collection. Subsequently, we proceeded to the focus group interview in order to complement the data obtained through direct observation, which was enriched through the perspectives that students had about the experience they lived. This study allowed us to infer that listening to relaxing and stimulating music, during the practical lessons of EVT, caused the number of indiscipline incidents displayed by the students to decrease and helped to bring in students states of relaxation and rest as well, motivating them to carry out the proposed activities.
