Abstract(s)
The present study intends to analyze how is made the inclusion of people with intellectual disability in the labor market in an interior municipality in the central region of Portugal, studying three groups of participants: people with intellectual disabilities; responsible for each employer where these people work; and also a technique of the resource center of the Social Solidarity Institution Vidas (fictitious name). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven people with intellectual disability, six responsible for employers and a resource center technique. The information collected was object of content analysis. The data obtained revealed that the labor market in the county under study is increasingly receptive to hiring people with disabilities/disability. Of the seven cases studied, all of them are the employment-insertion contract and their contracts have already been renewed, at least once. To a great extent this is due to the ability to overcome the problems that people with intellectual disability reveal and their willpower to want to do their best. The results of this investigation highlight the importance of the person-centered planning (PCP), i.e., a plan that leads the technician to achieve the orientation of the person's life, by identifying their interests, talents and desires. This helps the technician to build a support network in partnership with families, friends and professionals so that it is possible to guarantee an auspicious future for the person with intellectual disability.
