Abstract(s)
Introdução: Na conjuntura atual, o envelhecimento da população é um fenómeno mundial, o que se traduz no aumento da procura dos serviços de saúde, constituindo esta circunstância, um desafio aos profissionais de saúde. Nesta perspetiva, torna-se fundamental saber quais os conhecimentos que estes possuem em relação aos idosos, bem como, as atitudes que adotam, de modo a perceber se os estereótipos que a sociedade possui em relação à velhice se refletem, ou não, na prestação dos cuidados de saúde.
Objetivo: Avaliar os Conhecimentos e Atitudes dos profissionais de saúde face aos idosos e verificar em que medida as variáveis sociodemográficas e profissionais têm efeito significativo nos mesmos.
Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo transversal, descritivo-correlacional, de natureza quantitativa e analítica, no qual participaram 80 profissionais de saúde do Centro Hospitalar Tondela – Viseu, EPE (CHTV; EPE), e 80 profissionais de saúde do ACES-Douro Sul, ARS Norte. O Instrumento de colheita de dados integra um questionário sociodemográfico e profissional, o Questionário de Avaliação de Conhecimentos em relação à Velhice e a Escala OP de Kogan – Atitudes face aos idosos. Para o tratamento estatístico foi utilizado o programa SPSS versão 20.
Resultados: A população estudada é maioritariamente feminina, vivendo acompanhada, com uma média de idades de 40,35 anos e com licenciatura. Verificamos ainda que, os profissionais não têm formação em gerontologia, possuem fracos conhecimentos sobre os idosos, mas apresentam atitudes positivas face aos mesmos. Os dados revelam associações significativas entre a idade e as atitudes face aos idosos, entre a categoria profissional, local de trabalho e a subescala “Inter-relação entre idosos”, entre o género e as subescalas “Aspetos Residenciais”; e “Dependência” da escala de atitudes face aos idosos.
Conclusão: As evidências encontradas neste estudo convidam-nos para a elaboração e reflexão sobre novas estratégias, que facilitem o desenho de programas de intervenção formativos e informativos, visando o aumento de formação na área de gerontologia dos profissionais de saúde, e promovendo a adoção e incrementação de atitudes positivas destes relativamente aos idosos.

ABSTRACT Introduction: In the current climate, population aging is a global phenomenon, which translates into increased demand for health services, making this condition a challenge to health professionals. In this perspective, it becomes essential to know what knowledge they possess about the elderly, as well as the attitudes they adopt in order to see if the stereotypes that society has toward aging are reflected or not in providing health care. Objective: To assess knowledge and attitudes of health professionals against the elderly and to ascertain to what extent the socio-demographic and professional variables have a significant effect on them. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive-correlational, quantitative and analytical, which was attended by 80 health professionals from the Centre Hospitalier Tondela - Viseu, EPE (CHTV; EPE), and 80 health professionals from the Douro-ACES South, North ARS. The instrument integrates a data collection questionnaire socio-demographic and professional, the Knowledge Assessment Questionnaire in relation to old age and the Kogan OP Scale - Attitudes to the elderly. For statistical analysis we used SPSS version 20. Results: The study population was predominantly female, with a mean age of 40.35 years, and marital status together, licensed, and untrained in gerontology, with positive attitudes to the elderly and poor knowledge about these. We obtain the existence of significant influence between attitudes to the elderly and age, among the professional category, the workplace and the subscale "Interrelationship among the elderly," the gender and subscales "Aspects Houses" and "dependence" on the scale of attitudes towards the elderly. Conclusion: The evidence from this study invite us to prepare and reflect on new strategies that facilitate the design of intervention programs training and information aimed at increasing training in the field of gerontology, health professionals, and promoting the adoption and scaling up these positive attitudes towards the elderly.
