Abstract(s)
Com a realização deste trabalho pretendemos dar um contributo para a elaboração
de um plano estratégico para o turismo do Porto Santo. Em rigor, o trabalho tem
como finalidade principal, demonstrar a possibilidade da inserção do Geoturismo no
mercado turístico da ilha. Consideramos que o Geoturismo poderá desempenhar um
papel relevante no combate à sazonalidade, que consideremos ser o principal problema
no turismo do Porto Santo.
Porto Santo situa-se a nordeste da ilha da Madeira. É conhecida como Ilha Dourada
ou “Caraíbas da Europa” devido á sua extensa praia de areia fina e dourada e às
águas cálidas de cor turquesa. Mais recentemente, para além do lazer, passou a ser apreciada
também pelas suas qualidades terapêuticas e medicinais.
Apesar dos esforços já investidos quer pelas entidades competentes, quer pelos
investidores particulares, na criação e no melhoramento das infraestruturas, a realidade
é que isso não basta, uma vez que as acessibilidades para a ilha assim não o permitem.
A promoção continua a ir no sentido do produto Sol & Praia, sem nunca considerar
a hipótese de criar novos produtos e divulgar Porto Santo como um destino de
férias para o ano inteiro.
Assim, com este projeto, apresentam-se novos e possíveis produtos para colmatar
a lacuna turística de Porto Santo, visando melhoras qualitativas da oferta e diversificando
as alternativas para o desenvolvimento e crescimento da ilha como destino de
excelência no Geoturismo.
ABSTRACT: With the completion of this work we intend to make a contribution to the elaboration of a strategic plan for the tourism of Porto Santo. Strictly speaking, the work has as its main purpose, to demonstrate the possibility of inserting the Geotourism in the island's tourist market. We consider that the Geotourism can play an important role in the combat against seasonality, which we consider to be the main problem in the tourism of Porto Santo. Porto Santo is located to the northeast of the island of Madeira. It is known as the Golden Island or "Caribbean of Europe" due to its extensive beach of fine golden sand and warm waters of turquoise color. More recently, in addition to the leisure, is also appreciated for its medicinal and therapeutic qualities. In spite of the efforts already invested either by the competent authorities or by private investors, in the creation and the improvement of infrastructures, the reality is that this is not enough, since the access to the island doesn't allow it. Promotion continues to go towards the Sea & Sun product, without ever considering creating new products and divulge Porto Santo as a holiday destination for the whole year. So, with this project, we present new and potential products to bridge the gap in Porto Santo, aimed at qualitative improvement of supply and diversifying the alternatives for the development and growth of the island as a destination of excellence on Geotourism.
