Abstract(s)
Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are an object of study in constant scientific evolution, trying to find solutions (or at least ways) which contribute to the well-being of those affected by the disorders. It is important to carry on studying and implementing techniques which can improve the deficits of the ASD. This study focuses on the development and improvement of social skills which, according to the APA (2014), are present on individuals with ASD, by implementing two activities (Artistic Installation and Collaborative Art), with the purpose of seeing if the youngsters are artistically motivated. The above mentioned research was developed by a qualitative approach, through participative observation and structured character, using an observation matrix. The research studied six youngsters suffering from ASD, which are followed by the Portuguese Association for Development Disorders and Autism. The data gathered allowed for the improvement of social skills, using art as a means of interaction with the participants, according to the perspective of several authors supporting Arttherapy as a beneficial environment for the development and expression of people suffering from autism.
