Abstract(s)
Pessoal, a Representação Emocional; A Funcionalidade Familiar influencia positivamente o
Controlo Pessoal, o Controlo do Tratamento, a Representação Emocional e as Causas; O
tempo de diálise influencia a Coerência e as Causas.

ABSTRACT Chronic disease is a known cause for the psychological dysfunctions. The perception that patients have of their chronic disease influences their way to confront several life challenges: the health status, life style and characters on roll. However, it is also influenced by socialdemographic and clinical factors. This theme in currently poorly studied in patients with chronic renal disease submitted to renal substitution treatment. It is a study descriptive, analytical and correlational, trough quantitative analysis method. It’s, also, a retrospective, transvers study, with only one moment of evaluation. The sample included 97 patients submitted to renal substitution therapy. The Data instrument included: a socialdemographic questionnaire; a clinical questionnaire; the Family Functionality Scale trough the Family Apgar Scale; and the Illness Perception Questionnaire - revised (IPQ-R) (MOSS-MORRIS; WEINMAN, 2002), for perception evaluation. Results show that: age influences Identity, Consequences, Personal Control and Emotional Representation; Family Functionality positively influences Personal Control, Treatment Control, Emotional Representation and Causes; Dialysis time of treatment influences Coherency and Causes. Keywords: Chronic Disease; Chronic Renal Disease; Perception; IPQ – R.
