Abstract Background: Substance-induced psychosis constitutes a complex phenomenon in the field of mental health, with a significant impact on the individual’s overall functioning. In this context, the implementation of specialised interventions grounded in scientific evidence is essential. The Mental Health and Psychiatric Nurse Specialist (MHPNS) plays a central role in clinical stabilisation, psychosocial rehabilitation and relapse prevention, particularly in integrated settings involving acute inpatient care and community services. Objectives: To analyse the intervention of the MHPNS in a person with substance-induced psychosis, identifying health gains and the integration of practice with scientific evidence. Methodology: Qualitative case study developed in an acute psychiatric inpatient setting. Data collection was based on direct observation of the patient, analysis of clinical records and the implementation of specialised nursing interventions. In parallel, a narrative literature review was conducted to provide theoretical support for the interventions developed. Results: Specialised nursing interventions contributed to the stabilisation of the psychotic condition and to the improvement of illness awareness. The therapeutic relationship grounded in active listening, motivational interviewing, psychoeducation and family involvement through supportive and informative interventions emerged as central elements in the recovery process. Conclusion: The MHPNS plays an essential role in the integrated approach to substance-induced psychosis, with coordination between different levels of care being fundamental. Evidence-based practice guides clinical decision-making and promotes health gains, reinforcing the importance of structured, continuous and person-centred interventions. Keywords: mental health; psychosis; motivational interviewing; therapeutic relationship; family involvement
