Abstract This report was developed within the scope of the Option 5 Course Unit: Internship with Final Report in Community Care Units (UCC) and Public Health Units (USP), of the Master’s Degree in Community Health Nursing, specialising in Community and Public Health Nursing. The Águeda Local Social Integration Unit includes a nurse from the Community Care Unit, who is responsible for monitoring Social Integration Income beneficiaries throughout the duration of their contract. Given the socioeconomic vulnerability of this population, it is important to assess their Health Literacy level in order to design interventions tailored to their needs. Objectives: analyse the competences of the nurse specialist in community health and public health nursing developed during clinical internship, evaluate the health literacy level of Social Insertion Income beneficiaries in the Municipality of Águeda, assess adherence to healthcare in the referred sample, and identify sociodemographic and clinical factors associated with the level of health literacy. Methodology: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 129 participants, with a mean age of 44.97 ± 14.93 years. A questionnaire was used, including sociodemographic and clinical variables, questions on adherence to healthcare, and the HLS-EU-PT-Q16 scale. Data were analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 29.0, through descriptive and inferential statistics, with a significance level of 5%. Results: A total of 55.1% of participants had problematic or inadequate Health Literacy. Most participants reported adherence to healthcare. Associations were identified between Health Literacy, gender and educational level, but not with age, marital status, body mass index, adherence to healthcare or lifestyle. Conclusions: The results revealed low Health Literacy, with limitations in independently seeking, evaluating and using health information, despite favourable adherence to healthcare. These findings support the implementation of tailored interventions and the definition of health-related actions within social integration contracts. Keywords: Health Literacy; Vulnerable Populations; Community Health Nursing.
