Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT Mental health problems had a high prevalence in childhood and adolescence, and may be precursors of psychopathology in adulthood. The low level of mental health literacy associated to stigma and prejudice contribute to the worsening of mental disorders, to the extent of withholding the early recognition of mental disorders and influencing help-seeking behaviors. This is a very worrying reality therefore, the promotion of mental health strategies and the prevention of mental disorders are extremely important. The general objective of this research is to explore the levels of mental health literacy of a sample of adolescents (n=105), of both genders, from the central region of the country. Will apply QuaLiSMental, which was been translated and validated for portuguese population by Loureiro, Pedreira and Correia (2012), to evaluate the knowledge of mental health literacy. It is expected that the results point to the prevalence of low level of mental health literacy associated to stigma and prejudice that influence the preference for seeking informal support. In this sense, this project intends to analyze mental health literacy and the importance of adopting strategies to enable the promotion of mental health through various ways attractive to adolescents. It emphasizes the importance of promoting effective and appealing strategies in literacy, given the age range of adolescence.
