Abstract(s)
Oscar Wilde emphasizes the artistic aspect of human labor producing a variety of useful and useless goods, from machinery to poetry. However, this labor goes beyond the mere production of goods. My purpose is to understand the endless possibilities of art in a secular world. Are we actually living in a molded, secular and modern neo-Dionysian culture, which is structured by paradoxes and focused on the carpe diem? Are we molded by the secular, i.e. by the crisis of values? Is it the hedonism a modern form of life and the development of Wildeâs aestheticism? Following a reflexive and dialectical method, I approach the cons umerist social behaviors to support the idea that Aesthetics cannot be resented as an ethical response to a meaning-emptiness world, but as a consequence of such emptiness, insofar the aestheticism of modern life is immediate, superficial and ephemeral.
