Abstract(s)
Enquadramento – A prática desportiva é transversal a todas as faixas etárias e a vários
variáveis antropométricas, contextuais à prática desportiva, variáveis contextuais à lesão no
As lesões músculo-esqueléticas
jovens desportistas.
Abstract Background - The practice of sport is transversal to all age groups and to various levels of play, from recreational practice to professionalism. However, many of the sports practices are characterized by contact and collision, and sportsmen are very susceptible to the occurrence of musculoskeletal injuries, with a strong impact on their quality of life. Objectives - To identify the prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries in young athletes; to analyze sociodemographic, anthropometric and contextual determinants in these lesions. Methods - Quantitative, descriptive and correlational study. The sample is of a nonprobabilistic type for convenience, constituted by 108 young sportsmen of the Futebol Clube do Porto SAD and of the Associação Desportiva Social e Cultural Viseu 2001. The data collection instrument contains a set of sociodemographic characterization, anthropometric, contextual variables to the sport practice, contextual variables to the injury in the context of the sport practice and the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire to evaluate the lesions (Serranheira et al., 2003). Results - There was a prevalence of 43.5% of musculoskeletal injuries in young athletes in the last 12 months. The musculoskeletal lesions were found mainly in the cervical spine (15.7%), the left shoulder (13.0%), the right elbow (10.2%), the lumbar region (23.1%), the right leg / left knee (13.0%), and in both ankles / feet (10.2%). Variables, area of residence, Body Mass Index, club training, backpack use only on one shoulder, the fact that they had an injury on the course and had stopped on the course of the sport, influence in the occurrence of musculoskeletal injuries. Also the professional that accompanied the young sportsman in the rehabilitation and the stops of the normal activities due to the injury are associated with the symptomatology due to the musculoskeletal injuries. Conclusions - The prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries in young people is indeed significant and varies according to some sociodemographic and contextual determinants; the nurses who are specialists in rehabilitation can benefit from the conclusions obtained in this study, being a subsidy for the improvement of the care given to young sportsmen, focusing more on prevention and promotion of the quality of life of young sportsmen and women.
