Abstract(s)
desenvolvimento. Favorece o desenvolvimento socioeconómico e fortalece a economia
local, gera e motiva o desenvolvimento de outras atividades económicas. Portugal e a região
culturais no planeamento e desenvolvimento do turismo na Região Demarcada do Douro
face à chamada época baixa no turismo.
Tourism activity today is present all over the world as a fast-growing activity capable of generating significant economic flows and new development opportunities. It favors socioeconomic development and strengthens the local economy, generates and motivates the development of other economic activities. Portugal and the Douro region, in the context of an open and globalized economy, are not on the fringes of this phenomenon. Seasonality covers various sectors of economic activity, from primary to tertiary, tourism, specifically culture and museums, is also greatly affected by this phenomenon. In a way this phenomenon is predictable in this sector, this predictability eventually allows the anticipation of several strategies to counteract this phenomenon and stimulate the stability of demand throughout the year, as for example we have market variation, pricing policy and experience. promotion should reflect distinct activity and event packages. This work was carried out as a starting point to help combat the phenomenon of seasonality that so much affects tourism in general and in particular the Douro region. We hope that through our suggestions and conclusions, it will be possible to sensitize the opinion leaders of this region to the importance of new and improved cultural tourism products in the planning and development of tourism in the Douro Demarcated Region in view of the socalled low season in tourism.
