Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The "Lean and six sigma" methodology states in the world of industry as a powerful tool for process improvement with the use of quantitative indicators inserted in a disciplined strategy. The main aim which is common to other tools, is to reduce costs with a strong impact on reducing defects, increasing the products quality or services and organizational efficiency through process optimization and therefore increasing satisfaction of employees and customers. The aim of this study is the application of the basic concepts related to Lean methodology, by applying the “5S” tool at work in a production process of a metalworking industry. The initial assessment based on a checklist developed by us has resulted quantitatively the value of 7.7% as well as the proposed actions for improvement only in the first 3 levels. The second audit conducted after the implementation of improvement actions, earlier proposed, had very positive results reaching a score of 65.4%. Although the objective of 75% originally proposed was not achieved the results were very well received by the company employees. The benefits achieved by the company in implementing the 5S program were many, among them are: improving the working environment, providing greater comfort, welfare, safety and health for people, contributing to the satisfaction of the organization, cleanliness and use of resources such as documents, machines, equipment, space, among others, considering the philosophy of the 5S program. In the opinion of management the 5S implementation greatly improved the organization level, cleanliness and especially reduced waste of time to perform the tasks. This work done in classroom training and field spread positively to all employees, for they started the same process implementation of the 5S tool in their jobs.
