Abstract Introduction: This report presents the training path developed within the scope of the Master's Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for the critically ill, highlighting the learning acquired during internships in emergency services and intensive care units, as well as the research component. These contexts were crucial for the development of personal, communicational, and technical-scientific skills, essential for evidence-based nursing practice. Objective: To critically reflect on the internships carried out, highlighting the development of skills, and to analyze the scientific evidence on the effectiveness of mechanical versus manual chest compressions in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, through the elaboration of a systematic literature review to map existing knowledge and identify possible gaps. Methodology: The report is structured in two parts. Part I consists of a reflective analysis of the activities carried out during the internships, based on the competencies of the specialist nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing. Part II describes the research component, focused on developing a systematic literature review, based on the method proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute. Results: The internships allowed for the consolidation of technical, clinical, and communication skills. The research component deepened critical analysis and scientific research abilities. Conclusion: The internship experience was fundamental for improving clinical practice, allowing for care tailored to the needs of patients. The systematic literature review contributed to evidence-based practice, systematizing knowledge about the effectiveness of mechanical versus manual chest compressions in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Keywords: Medical-Surgical Nursing; Cognitive Reflection; General Emergency Department; Multipurpose Intensive Care; Mechanical versus manual chest compressions; Systematic Literature Review.
