Ansiedade, depressão e stresse no familiar cuidador do doente mental

| dc.description.abstract | Enquadramento: As atuais orientações políticas sobre a saúde, particularmente sobre a saúde mental vão no sentido de se manterem os doentes mentais na comunidade, enfatizando a necessidade do desenvolvimento dos suportes sociais naturais, onde se incluem as famílias, emergindo daqui o papel do familiar cuidador. Objetivos: Identificar variáveis sociodemográficas que influenciam a ansiedade, depressão e stresse do cuidador informal do doente mental; determinar a influência de variáveis de contexto familiar sobre a ansiedade, depressão e stresse do cuidador; analisar a relação entre o suporte social e sobrecarga do cuidador com a ansiedade, depressão e stresse do cuidador informal. Material e Métodos: Realizamos um estudo transversal, descritivo-correlacional, tendo, participado 104 cuidadores, a maioria do sexo feminino (62,5%), com idades entre 22 a 77 anos média de 52,03 anos. Utilizaram-se como instrumentos, a: Escala Apgar Familiar; Escala Satisfação com Suporte Social (ESSS); Escala Sobrecarga do Cuidador (ESC); Escalas Ansiedade, Depressão e Stresse (EADS-21). Resultados: Constatamos que o género feminino apresenta índices mais elevados (p<0.05) de ansiedade, depressão e stresse; os participantes com 1º, 2ºe 3º ciclos de escolaridade possuem mais ansiedade que os do ensino superior e secundário (p=0,001); cuidadores que vivem em meio rural apresentam maiores níveis de depressão (p=0,044) e stresse (p=0,041); os que percecionam famílias com disfunções acentuadas apresentam maiores níveis de depressão (p=0,001) e stresse (p=0,000); quanto maior a sobrecarga maiores os níveis de ansiedade (p=0,002), depressão e stresse (p=0,000). Conclusões: Face aos resultados é necessário desenvolver estratégias de intervenção local e comunitária para a promoção da saúde mental e prevenção da doença mental. | dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT Background: Current health policy guidelines, and in particularly mental health policies, tend towards keeping the patient in the community, with the emphasis being on the need to develop natural social support. This includes the patient’s family, which has led to the emergence of the role of the family caregiver. Aims: To identify the sociodemographic variables affecting anxiety, depression and stress in informal carers of mental health patients; to determine how the variables of family background affect anxiety, depression and stress in the carer; to analyse the relationship between social support and the burden on the caregiver with anxiety, depression and stress in informal carers. Material and Methodology: A transversal descriptive-correlational study was conducted of 104 caregivers, the majority (62.5%) of whom were females aged between 22 and 77 (with an average age of 52.03). The following instruments were used: The Family Apgar Score; Social Support Satisfaction Scale (SSSS); Burden Interview Scale; Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS - 21). Results: We found that women have higher levels (p<0.05) of anxiety, depression and stress; those who left school before the sixth form revealed higher levels of anxiety than those who had finished secondary school or university studies (p=0,001); caregivers living in rural areas suffer more from depression (p=0,044) and stress (p=0,041); those from markedly dysfunctional families reveal greater levels of depression (p=0,001) and stress (p=0,000); the greater the burden, the greater the levels of anxiety (p=0,002), depression and stress (p=0,000). Conclusions: Given these results, strategies need to be developed on a local and community level to promote mental health and the prevention of mental illness.
