The empowerment of women in a society, that tends to be patriarchal has been a slow process, despite moving towards the equality advocated by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The world of sports is neither an exception nor an isolated island; it has been and is organized
according to the practices of the moment in history in which it takes place. The sporting phenomenon certainly finds its maximum exponent in the Olympic Games, where many of the idiosyncrasies of the modern world are materialized.
