- Accessibility, heritage, and project. Re-architectures for everyonePublication . Jové Sandoval, José MaríaIntroduction: Designing to bring new cycles of life to Cultural Heritage requires providing it with new functionalities, making it appealing and safe, and also improving its conditions of use for all individuals. The third issue, accessibility, currently has to be a basic, cross-sectional requisite incorporated in the project process from beginning to end. Objetives: In Architectural schools, the matter of accessibility is usually treated as a collateral issue or as a secondary subject. However, if it is considered to be an authentic project substance, future professions will probably be more committed to it. Methods: Analysis of the state of the issue based on various published studies and of the problem areas involved in applying it. The students’ experiences in their training were also analyzed, based on their work on the ruins of the San Antón Monastery in Castrogeriz, on the Camino de Santiago [The Way of St. James]. Results: When accessibility is considered from the beginning of a project, as just another requisite, better architectonic solutions are achieved. Conclusions: Focusing on learning about the problem areas involved in the use of Cultural Heritage by all people makes it possible to dig deeper into one of the most significant ingredients in architecture: sensory perception. Reflecting about the work in Castrogeriz can be a source of ideas that contribute to the architectonic debate on accessibility.
- The winners’ drama in Seneca’s TroadesPublication . Balula, João PauloAbstract Introduction:The texts of classical literature are of great importance for the formation of critical readers. For this reason, this article proposes a current reading of the winners’ difficulties that are evident in Seneca’s Troades: Pyrrhus, Agamemnon, Ulysses, Achilles, and Helena. Development: Starting from a content analysis of the literary work, a reflection on the consequences of feelings and passions is presented. It becomes evident that when the human being is confronted with himself and with his essence everything comes to the surface: the most admired virtue (moderation) and the most despicable defects (arrogance, brutality, tyranny, hypocrisy and cowardice). Conclusions: It is concluded that the winners’ concern focuses on the doubt about the success of the return trip.
- The role of innovation in special interest tourism: a theoretical approachPublication . Sousa, BrunoIntroduction: The innovation process, and its application to several contexts, has been gradually gaining ground in the academic community as a field of study. Similarly, in recent decades, tourism has received greater attention from academics in different sciences and focus (e.g. economic, social, cultural and environmental). Objective: The purpose of this study is to explore and to contribute the literature on special interest tourism and innovation process (e.g. ecotourism management). Methods: This is a conceptual paper that brings together the major components of innovation process and its implications in special interest tourism contexts (e.g. ecotourism). Results: The study presents closely to primary classical innovation and entrepreneurship issues. The creation process associated with the nature and sustainable reservation systems, mechanisms and information sharing are a competitive advantage over tourism destinations and products. Conclusions: The generators entrepreneurship and innovative factors that may trigger an entrepreneurial activity. The study considers some of the implications for management and literature. Implications for future research are also presented.
- Modeling the influence of production and storage conditions on the blueberry qualityPublication . Guiné, Raquel; Matos, Susana; Gonçalves, Christophe; Costa, Daniela Vasconcelos Teixeira da; Mendes, Mateus; Gonçalves, FernandoBlueberry is a widely consumed fruit with major economic value, appreciated due to its characteristic flavor as well as health benefits. The present work aimed to evaluate the effect of several production factors and storage conditions on some chemical and physical properties of blueberries. Some physical and chemical characteristics (moisture, acidity, sugars, color and texture) of blueberries from three cultivars, originating from five different locations and conventional or organic farming, were evaluated. The variation of the properties along time was also evaluated for storage at room temperature and refrigeration. Moreover, artificial neural network models were developed to estimate the physical-chemical characteristics of the blueberries, as influenced by the production and conservation factors considered. The results showed that all the characteristics considered varied according to cultivar, place of cultivation and production mode. The storage conditions also induced changes in the chemical components as well as in color and texture. The changes were dependent on type and duration of storage, cultivar and production mode. Weight analysis of the artificial neural network models highlighted the patterns and trends observed experimentally.
- Effect of Drying Temperature on the Physical-chemical and Sensorial Properties of Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.)Publication . Guiné, Raquel; Correia, Paula; Correia, Ana Cristina; Gonçalves, Fernando; Brito, Mariana; Ribeiro, JéssicaBackground: Eggplant is an important crop, being cultivated and consumed in many countries. However, like other vegetables, is highly perishable and has a short shelf life. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of hot air drying on some physical, chemical and sensorial properties of eggplant. Methods: Eggplant samples were dried in convective chambers at constant temperatures of 50, 60, 70 and 80°C. The fresh and dried samples were evaluated for moisture, water activity, vitamin C, total phenolic compounds, antioxidant activity, colour and texture. To complement the study, a sensorial evaluation was made by a consumer panel. Results: The results showed that drying decreased importantly the contents of vitamin C and phenolic compounds as well as antioxidant activity. Moreover, the negative impact was higher for higher drying temperatures. Drying also altered the colour, turning the samples darker. The textural properties were similarly considerably altered by drying, although the temperature did not show significant influence. Regarding the sensorial evaluation, even though it allowed establishing the sensory profiles of the dried samples, it was not possible to clearly distinguish among them, particularly the global appreciation. Conclusion: It was concluded that the drying operation substantially changed the physical, chemical and sensory properties of eggplant. Furthermore, the drying temperature had higher effect on the chemical components and colour and nor so much on the texture.

- Barriers to access prenatal screening: integrative reviewPublication . Carvalho, Elisabete; Göttems, Leila; Monteiro, Sandra; Guilhem, Dirce; Ribeiro, LaianeIntroduction: Prenatal monitoring is essential to reducing maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality rates. However, organisational barriers may hamper access to the actions and services carrying on with the fragmentation and quality of care. Objectives: To analyse in the Brazilian scientific production the access barriers to performing screenings during prenatal monitoring. Method: Integrative review of publications searched in the bibliographic databases of Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information (LILACS), Nursing Database (BDENF), and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), published in Portuguese, English, and Spanish from 2005 to 2015. Results: Of 708 articles searched, 15 met the inclusion criteria. The studies were systematised and led to four categories for analysis: (1) Sluggishness in the process of exam scheduling, sample collection, and releasing of results; (2) Insufficient quotas for the primary care screenings; (3) Lack of resources of the pregnant women; and (4) Adequacy of screenings related to the early onset of prenatal care. Conclusion: The access barriers to screenings in the prenatal monitoring are mainly related to the scant health resources devoted to primary care; sluggishness in the process of scheduling and running of tests; and to the lack of resources of the pregnant woman, who cannot afford the costs of examinations not covered by the public health system. The publications also highlighted the positive aspects for the pregnant women who had an early onset of prenatal care.
