- AI-Powered Data Management to Optimize Data Collection and Processing in a Painting LaboratoryPublication . Pereira, Maria Teresa Ribeiro; Pereira, Marisa João Guerra; Tavares, Miguel Guedes; Guimarães, André; Vilarinho, HermilioIndustrial laboratories often remain under-digitized compared to production lines, creating a gap between data acquisition and analytical intelligence, critical for advanced quality control. This study addresses this gap by proposing and validating a novel framework that combines Low-Code digitalisation tools with Machine Learning (ML) and Causal Inference to optimise data collection and analysis in an automotive painting laboratory. A Microsoft Power Apps-based platform was developed in order to digitalise all measurement records, eliminating manual transcription errors (previously ≈ 40.01%) and reducing data-handling time by up to 34% of an operator’s shift, while enabling centralised, traceable storage and Power BI integration. Four datasets were used to assess predictive capacity with Random Forest, XGBoost and Neural Networks; Random Forest consistently provided the most stable results—Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 0.972, Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 16.45%, and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 1.307. Causal models (Linear Regression, DoWhy, Causal Forest, Double Machine Learning) consistently identified ultrafiltrate I solid content of the electrodeposition process as a dominant causal factor for defects. This study provides a novel framework that bridges digitalisation and ML-based causal reasoning in laboratory settings, offering a scalable approach that can be extended and replicated in other industrial sectors, aiming to develop smart, data-driven quality control systems.
- Inclusão Profissional de um Jovem com Perturbação do Espetro do Autismo: Estudo de Caso de Sucesso no Mercado LaboralPublication . Pedrosa, Ana Kelem Mendonça; Fernandes, RosinaA inclusão de jovens com Perturbação do Espetro do Autismo (PEA) no mercado laboral constitui um desafio significativo, dada a presença das suas dificuldades específicas. Estas impactam a vida pessoal, escolar e profissional, influenciando o acesso ao trabalho. Apesar destes obstáculos, muitos destes jovens possuem competências relevantes para o contexto laboral, sendo fundamental assegurar apoios individualizados, adaptações no local de trabalho e programas de formação inclusivos. O sucesso na transição para a vida adulta depende, em grande medida, do desenvolvimento de capacidades de comunicação, autogestão e adaptação, bem como da existência de suporte estruturado. Este estudo pretende abordar o sucesso da inclusão profissional de um jovem com a Perturbação do Espetro do Autismo (PEA), sendo abordadas as medidas de apoio nesse processo, enfatizando o Projeto Incorpora, da Fundação La Caixa, responsável pelo êxito no caso estudado. A metodologia de investigação foi de natureza qualitativa, recorrendo ao estudo de caso de um jovem adulto de 27 anos, diagnosticado com PEA aos 10, a trabalhar numa loja num grande centro comercial na Região Centro de Portugal. Participaram no estudo, um elemento do contexto familiar (a mãe), a técnica de prospeção do Projeto Incorpora e o próprio jovem. As técnicas de recolha de dados utilizadas foram a análise documental, no que concerne à legislação, e entrevistas semiestruturadas. Os resultados conduziram à constatação da importância que os apoios – familiar, profissional e legal – representam, como facilitadores e minimizadores de dificuldades enfrentadas pelas pessoas com deficiência/incapacidade.
- Relatório de Estágio numa Comissão de Proteção de Crianças e Jovens da Região CentroPublication . Osório, Carla Maria Henriques; Fernandes, Rosina; Mendes, FranciscoThis final internship report is part of the Master's Degree in Psychosocial Intervention with Children and Young People at Risk, and reports on the work carried out during an internship at a Child and Youth Protection Commission in the central region of the country, between November 2024 and June 2025. The purpose of the internship was to integrate theoretical knowledge with professional practice, promoting the development of technical, ethical, and relational skills that are fundamental to social intervention with vulnerable populations. The work included a case study that sought to understand the process of social inclusion of a migrant family at risk, accompanied by this CPCJ. The intervention focused on various aspects of family functioning, namely schooling, housing conditions, parenting, emotional bonds, and available social resources. Data collection and analysis were based on interviews, home visits, inter-institutional meetings, and document analysis. The results obtained highlight the complexity of the situations monitored by the CPCJs and the importance of a coordinated response, focused on the child and tailored to the sociocultural context of the family. The internship also allowed for critical reflection on the challenges of professional practice, highlighting the role of CPCJs as central bodies in promoting the rights and protection of children and young people. Finally, this document represents a personal and academic contribution to the understanding and improvement of intervention practices in the field of child protection.
