Abstract(s)
This final practicum report for the Master degree in Early Childhood Education and Primary Education program proposes to evaluate the learning journey through the supervised practicum as well as the research project. The report is divided into two parts: the first part focus on a detailed analysis of our supervised practicum both in primary education and in early childhood education. The second part will present the research project which analyzes children’s perspectives about their daily routine. We will evaluate the educational environment and organization of the classroom, use of the time and space as well as children initiative in the decision making process. This qualitative study used direct observation methods and interviews to four children and their early childhood teacher. The goal is to understand and evaluate the organization and use of the organization dynamics (time and space) accordingly with the children’s educational experience and perceptions. Investigation results show that children are able to identify specific components of their classroom environment, identify their favorite moments in the classroom as well as provide suggestions and feedback regarding classroom time management, the space itself and its use. Children appear to have a clear definition and understanding of their favorite daily events, as well as their mostly preferred interest areas. The research also showed that children tend to act differently in different situations. Only a small group feels completely comfortable to provide feedback and/or suggestions and has a good understanding when is the most appropriate moment to do so.
