Abstract(s)

This work serves as an analysis of motivation and self-determination in the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lamego (SCML) and it is a case study. We defined the following as the main objectives: a) To study motivation within the SCML; b) To analyse the possible sources of demotivation in employees; c) To suggest possible solutions to the lack of motivation, proposing changes to processes and the reorganization of tasks. This study will analyze the third sector in Portugal, the IPSS, and specifically the SCML, trying to understand what influence it has in the city of Lamego, through its social responses, the most preponderant being the old people’s home, since it has the most users. Theoretically, we will look more closely at the definitions of motivation, using both classic and recent theories on the subject. Regarding data collection methods, we used observation, analysis of SCML documents and a questionnaire survey of employees. In general, the results point to the existence of positive motivational levels, despite some problems that we identified and for which we propose alternatives.
