Abstract(s)
The present Final Internship Report marks the culmination of the entire training process in the Primary School and Preschool Education. Thus, in the first part, the aim is to describe the journey in the two contexts where the internships took place, specifically in the Primary School and in Preschool Education. The report first presents a critical reflection on the practices in these contexts, particularly on some aspects that differentiate them and the practices developed there, with a brief emphasis on practices related to children's literature books in preschool education. In the second part, an investigation is presented with the objective of identifying and analyzing the pedagogical potential and characteristics of children's literature books for children aged between 12 and 36 months. The research began with a literature review that allowed for an understanding of the pedagogical potential and appropriate characteristics of children's literature books for these ages. Through this literature review we identified criteria for analyzing the books related to: skills that can be developed in the child; format/material; illustration; content/theme; language; graphics; and overall composition of the story. Eight books were selected from the database of two municipal libraries in the Northern Region of Portugal. The books were meticulously analyzed considering the different identified criteria/characteristics. It was concluded that, in general, the eight books analyzed meet most of the identified criteria. This work can become a contribution to improving knowledge, especially among educators, but also for parents and other professionals, regarding the selection of children's books, encouraging them to choose books with more pedagogical potential and more suitable for their children.
