Abstract(s)
Introdução: Na sequência do estado de emergência de saúde pública devido à propagação
do coronavírus SARS-CoV-2, impuseram-se medidas restritivas de contacto que levaram ao
isolamento social. A pandemia por COVID-19 provocou um grande impacto ao nível do
isolamento social nos idosos em toda a sociedade com consequências específicas ao nível
da saúde mental.
Objetivo: Mapear a evidência disponível sobre o impacto do isolamento social durante a
pandemia por COVID-19 na saúde mental do idoso.
Metodologia: Com base nas recomendações do Joanna Briggs Institute, foi desenvolvida
uma Scoping Review. Os artigos foram selecionados através de uma lista de verificação
PRISMA-ScR, no período de publicação de 2019 a 2021, nos idiomas português, inglês e
espanhol. Dois revisores independentes realizaram a análise de relevância dos artigos, e a
extração e síntese dos dados.
Resultados: De 724 artigos, 29 foram incluídos nesta revisão, com identificação de áreas que
evidenciam o impacto do isolamento social na saúde mental do idoso: restrição de atividades,
alterações nas relações sociais, impacto na autonomia do idoso, manifestações das
alterações na saúde mental, fatores de vulnerabilidade, estratégias adotadas para combater
o impacto na SM saúde mental e o impacto positivo do isolamento social.
Conclusões: O isolamento social tem impacto na saúde mental do idoso, tendo sido
identificado maioritariamente efeitos negativos. A saúde mental influencia o estado de saúde
de uma comunidade, pelo que o isolamento social determina o estado de saúde deste grupo
etário.

Abstract Introduction: Following the public health state of emergency due to the spread of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, restrictive contact measures were imposed and lead to social isolation. The Covid-19 pandemic caused a great impact in terms of social isolation in the elderly population across society causing major mental health consequences. Objective: To map the available scientific evidence on the impact of social isolation in the mental health of the elderly population during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: Based on the recommendations of the Joanna Briggs Institute, a Scoping review was developed. The articles were selected through a PRISMA-ScR checklist, from the year 2019 to the year of 2021, in Portuguese, English and Spanish languages. Two independent reviewers analyzed the relevance of the articles and the data extraction and its synthesis. Results: From the 724 articles, 29 were included in this study. Different categories were identified demonstrating the social isolation impact in the mental health of the elderly population: restriction of the daily life activities, changes in social relationships, impact on the elderly autonomy, ability to demonstrate mental health changes, vulnerability factors, mental health coping mechanisms and positive impact in social isolation. Conclusion: The social isolation has a great impact in the mental health of the elderly population, emphasis on the negative effects. Mental health has an important role in the health state of a community therefore social isolation determines the health status of this age group.
