Objectives: To identify possible apoptotic events in renal tissue, using an animal model in which was simulated acute controlled haemorrhage, a frequent condition after a clinical situation resulting from a serious traumatic event, followed by volume replacement. Methods: 18 Large White pigs underwent total intravenous anaesthesia and randomly divided in three groups (n = 6). Group 1 and 2 were submitted to passive 25ml/kg arterial blood bleeding followed by volume replacement with LR in group1, and HES in group2, while group3 (control) was submitted to the same conditions, except bleeding and volume replacement. Renal tissue samples were processed for immunohistochemistry, using in situ TUNEL and Cytochrome c methods. The immunoreactivity levels were compared between groups using the Kruskal-Wallis test with Dunn’s post test. Results: Higher levels of apoptotic immunoreactivity were found for the HES group when compared to control and LR groups in convoluted tubules (p<0.01) and when compared to the control group in the descending limb of the loop of Henle and collecting duct. Conclusion: These findings are suggestive of a higher degree of insult in the tubular renal cells from animals that received HES 130/0.4.pt_PT
