Abstract(s)
A OMT (2020)
no presente e no futuro.
ABSTRACT: The World Tourism Organization (WTO), 1994 states that tourism encompasses the activities of people who travel to and stay in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for pleasure, business or other purposes. Today, tourism is firmly established in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as an engine for advancing prosperity, protecting the planet and laying the foundations for peace and understanding among peoples (United Nations [UN], 2020). The pandemic of the new Coronavirus (COVID-19) caused, in general, a negative impact on the economy and society, but, on the other hand, it led to an increase in the demand for spaces in nature, in the countryside, in villages and in inland areas from the country. The WTO (2020) recognizes that in the current context there is a clear focus on the domestic market and an increase in demand for natural and open spaces and that this is a trend that seems to be here to stay. For Turismo de Portugal (TP), 2020 Sustainability in Tourism is an unavoidable path and assumed with growing awareness by agents in the sector, worldwide. Meaning, therefore, that it should take into account the needs of visitors, the sector and communities, as well as their environmental, economic and social impacts in the present and in the future. According to the International Ecotourism Society (2015), Ecotourism is defined as the set of responsible activities carried out in natural areas, which preserve the environment, sustain the well-being of the local population and involve interpretation and education. Therefore, in view of this purpose, education must include employees and guests. It is, therefore, in this context that the present work appears, proposing to reconcile the need to carry out this document, arising from the realization of the Master's course in Tourism Management, with the development of a study plan for the viability of an accommodation business in the context of ecotourism, based on family ties and roots.
