Abstract(s)

Abstract: This report was written and developed under the Master’s Degree and Under Graduation in Child Health Care and Pediatrics Nursing. From the moment the child or teenager is under health care, may it be primal health care or hospitalization, they will experience certain degrees of anxiety and fear and the more the distance from a safe and sound environment increases, more intense those symptoms will become. Nurses, being the health care professionals with closest proximity to the child must try and break the barriers that exist in in health care, making sure their interventions include the family or others responsible for the child’s or teenager’s health. The main focus of nurses should therefore be promotion of health as well as sickness prevention ensuring these two goals are accomplished in the environments provided. As such, the subject of this report must focus on describing and analyzing the activities developed through the course of internships for a better skill acquisition that is characteristic to the Specialist Nurse in Child Health Care and Pediatrics as well as a critical reflation of those same competences. The Curricular Internship Unit took place in locations and environments which provide assistance to the child and its family (health care centers, pediatric emergency and infirmary services). These three are part of distinct groups containing the purpose of acquiring and developing specific skills. The main purpose integrated in the internship was: the development of competences possessed by the specialist Nurse in Child Health Care and Pediatrics when confronted with the many variables in providing health care to the child and family. Among the activities that occurred, it should be outlined the training sessions available to health care professionals and the community targeted (kindergarten professionals, children and professors) and the elaboration of a series of procedures taken into action at the Pediatrics Infirmary and Emergency Service. A point of focus also goes to the importance of practicing health care with the collaboration of families which was implemented during health care provision. Thus, many purposes and goals were achieved that allowed me to gain the competences and particular skills of a Specialist Nurse in Child Health Care and Pediatrics. These skills are of the most importance and irreplaceable in my formation as a future specialist nurse. Key words: Partnership in Care, Child, Teenager, Family, Nurse, Skills.
