Abstract(s)
This research focused on the importance that the Environmental Studies area may have as inclusive for different learning and more specifically in the development of the Portuguese language skills. At the level of basic education, health education and more particularly food emerges as a theme to be treated in an interdisciplinary perspective, due to the problems identified in the eating habits of children (by questionnaire) and recognizing the need to develop healthy habits and attitudes related to an expected quality of life. The methodological approach is divided into several stages which are: i) the collection of information, by questionnaire on the experiences and eating habits of students and their previous assumptions about healthy eating. Data collection took place in a class of the 1st cycle of basic education (EB) with ten students (six of the 1st year and four of the 3rd year) between the ages of 6 and 10 years old; ii) the definition of exploration and research strategies and analysis of texts produced by students on the theme before and after implementing the activities. Analysis and interpretation of data allowed the verification of the developed skills at various levels. There is evidence that, in general, the students that had developed concepts in the area of Environmental Studies, changed their eating habits and lifestyles, but also increased their writing skills in Portuguese. By this study, we can say that the use of real experiences and everyday problems is advantageous and motivating to the acquisition of skills in the area of Environmental Studies and in the Portuguese language as well. All in all, we can get to the conclusion that a better knowledge in Environmental Studies represents a better knowledge in the area of Portuguese Language, too.
