Abstract(s)
entre os intervenientes; formação, a nível institucional, das equipas de saúde; empatia;
honestidade; e objetividade.

Abstract Introduction: Communication plays a key role in nursing performance, and in pediatrics it is a determining factor in the therapeutic patient-nurse relationship and an indicator in the assessment of the quality of care provided. Communication in pediatrics can be understood as the driving force for the success of care/treatment and its acceptance, both by parents/caregivers and by the child. It is known that diseases can be treated with medication and comprehensive care, but the communication established at the time of providing this care is essential for its success. Objective: To identify the elements that facilitate the communication process in the provision of healthcare in the pediatric context. Methodology: A scoping review was performed using the method proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute. Study selection, data extraction and synthesis were performed by two independent reviewers. Results: Four studies were included in the corpus of the study, which reveal some factors that can be considered facilitating elements of the communication process in the provision of care in the pediatric context. We highlight some of them, such as: a biopsychosocial approach; mutual and horizontal dialogue; accurate listening; dialogic relationship between the interveners; training, at institutional level, of health teams; empathy; honesty; and objectivity. Communication implies the existence of a biopsychosocial approach, including discussion of doubts, affective-emotional aspects and psychosocial experience of difficulties associated with care. Conclusion: It is recognized that communication in a pediatric context is established in an environment in which the child only participates as a taster of basic information or with a distracting interest during the provision of care. However, communication must have a central dimension, with mutual dialogue and a dialogical relationship. The importance of training health teams in the area of communication in health care is reinforced, with the aim of improving this process and understanding its importance in the practice of care in the pediatric context. Keywords: communication; parents or caregivers; pediatric nurse; nurse/patient relationships; pediatric context; emergency
