The confirmation of a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a family member has an influence on the entire family dynamic. As siblings are an integral part of the family, they also suffer the impact of having a sibling with ASD and their needs are an important component to be considered in interventions aimed at the sibling and the family. This project is exploratory and descriptive in nature. The objective is to understand the perceptions of siblings of children with ASD about the process of adjustment to the problem, the involvement between siblings, family dynamics and support needs. This way we can contribute to build knowledge that can improve their lives. To collect data, four semi-structured interviews were conducted, along with the "Siblings Needs and Involvement Profile" questionnaire, adapted for the Portuguese population by Reis et al. (2010). The original questionnaire was developed by Fish and colleagues in 1995. The participants in the semi-structured interview were two mothers and two siblings of children/young people with ASD, and the participants in the questionnaire survey were ten siblings of children/young people with ASD. Data were examined and analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. The results indicate that, overall, the siblings in this sample experience more positive than negative experiences due to having a sibling with ASD. Although they feel some negative impact, such as increased responsibility, the positive aspects are the most frequently mentioned. Most enjoy playing with their siblings with ASD and are proud of them, developing greater empathy, understanding and tolerance in their relationships with them and others. However, mothers also mention some negative feelings and critical thinking and state that their children, at some point in their lives, showed a need for attention and recognition from their parents. In short, the siblings of children with ASD in this sample reveal a fairly positive profile of involvement with their siblings. The aim of this study was to contribute to building knowledge that can improve the lives of siblings of children/young people with ASD.
