Abstract(s)
Abstract: This document comes within the scope of the 7th Master's Course in Nursing at the Superior School of Health of Viseu. With this, I intend to highlight the skills acquired and developed within the scope of this course, specifically in an emergency and intensive care context. The study entitled "Experience lived by the person with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) who uses the Emergency Service (ES)" will also be presented. Thus, this work is divided into three parts. Parts I and II will address the Emergency and Intensive Care Internship respectively, seeking to highlight the specific skills acquired, the evidence of the activities carried out and the assessment by competence of each of them. In part III, a qualitative study of an interpretative phenomenological nature will be presented, in which the data collection instrument was a semi-structured interview directed at four people with Multiple Sclerosis. The following conclusions were obtained from the data analysis: The experience of people with Multiple Sclerosis who goes to the Emergency Department is generally not positive, with complaints related to long waiting times, dehumanization of care or lack of access to their individual process. The opinion regarding nurses is generally positive, although not exempt from notes related to “inappropriate posture”. All participants reported avoiding resorting to the Emergency Service, if there is a viable alternative. Key words: Multiple Sclerosis; Emergency Service, Hospital; Nursing Care; Chronic Disease.
