Abstract(s)
Today's families are faced with the great challenge of adjusting technologies in the contexts of daily life, which impacts parental practices and family relationships. The family is the fundamental element in the development of children and young people, this is the first contact that children have with the world and it is based on this that they will be guided to build their identity. Given that the family is the main source of information for children and young people, it is important that they guide their children in these digital changes. This advancement in technology brings with it several positive and negative aspects, dividing the opinions of several families, thus making parental management difficult, with regard to controlling and regulating the use of technology by children and young people. There are several changes in parental styles, in an attempt to respond to family problems caused by the use of technology. The present study aims to understand the perception of parents/caregivers about the influence of ICT on parental practices and family relationships. It is presented as an exploratory-descriptive study, as it aims to analyze the characteristics and opinions of a convenience sample, made up of 30 parents/guardians, with students aged between 6 and 10 years old. To prepare this study, a questionnaire was administered to the participants, and an interview was carried out with a Kindergarten Educator. The results highlight that the majority of guardians who participated in this study are aware of the risks that the influence of technologies has on their children and their family relationships; in this way, it was found that they adopt strategies to manage the time spent on technology. They also consider that the fact that children's contact with technology begins earlier and earlier could have an impact on their development. The literature emphasizes that the excessive use of technologies leads to several health problems, mainly psychological and social, resulting in increasing social isolation, with an influence on the mental health of children and adolescents (e.g., increased anxiety and indicators of depression) , as well as aggressiveness and difficulties in regulating emotions. All these indicators encouraged by the use of technologies generate insecurity in parents, since they come from generations that were not accustomed to the use of technologies in their day-to-day lives, thus they are compelled to modify their parenting practices in a to adjust to this new reality and be able to prevent future consequences.
