Abstract(s)
The idea of child protection “is a relatively recente civilizational acquizition, which began to take shape in the light of social, economic and demographic changes in societies born of industrialization in the 19th century, marked by the emergence of na ideology of progresso, wealth and well-being” (Carvalho & Fernandes, 2021, p. 425). What we are today is closely related to what we experienced and learned in childhood about ourselves, others and the world around us; the significant people in our lives (parents, grandparents, siblings, educators, teachers, friends, etc.) also contributed to the construction of our essence. This internship had the main objetive of getting to know residential care and post-care through the lenses and actions of those who have a more macro perspective, getting to know the residenctial care system as a whole and carrying out a transversal intervention across all Care Homes, even though each reality is unique. The three axes of PAJE – supporting young former sheltered, improving the exit profile and raising awareness of the topic, quere the guiding pillars of the internship, having been the motto for the development of the various activities carried out. In addition to verifying, until then, the need to improve the functioning and organization of Shelter Homes and the lack, in large nunmbers, of backing for young people leaving foster care it is also essencial to raise awareness in society in general, work to changing mentalities and getting even closer to political decision-makers and challenging them to make legislative changes that benefit the development of these children and young people.
