Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The arched bridges of stone masonry construction represent a type widely used in the past to complement the layout of roads. Trough bridges the passage of pedestrians and horse-drawn vehicles between the riverbanks was thus secured. With the evolution of knowledge and the introduction of new materials such as steel and reinforced concrete was up getting beat spans, with less labor work and less time to implement. Although nowadays the construction of masonry arch bridges almost extinguished, the existing ones exhibit good stability thus allowing its further use. Thus the current and future generations have the responsibility to ensure its maintenance and proper functioning. With this work we intend to perform an inspection to an arched bridge of stone masonry, including the Romanesque Bridge Salzedas located in the municipality of Tarouca in Portugal, as well as accesses their capacity. LFE-MEDM - for such inspection sheets authored by Morais (2012) and a computer program based on the method of discrete elements developed by Nightingale (2007) were used. To visit the bridge, a protocol between the Municipality of Tarouca and the School of Technology and Management Viseu (ESTGV) was performed. For the use of the method of discrete elements carried out a study of sensitivity to certain values formulations or constants that incorporates, inter alia, type of formulation, the load increment, normal stiffness value between discrete contact elements and type damping. The study allowed the determination of the combination or model that best fits - running in less time possible and reliable results.
