Abstract(s)
The long history of collecting, which gave rise to Museology, was accompanied by an evolution in terms of the functions performed by the museological institution, which are of a Scientific, Educational, Cultural and Touristic nature. Today, Museums are multifaceted, multidisciplinary spaces at the service of Humanity, but above all with an active role in the development of the community in which they operate. The Museu do Douro, son of the New Museology - the movement of renewal in museological theories and practices that began in the 1960s -, was the first Territory Museum in Portugal. This renewal implied the creation of new molds and strategies of action, adapted to the specific case that constitutes each project, reason why the case studies on these themes abound. The present study looks at the actions developed by the Museu do Douro over the last decade, which aimed simultaneously at the conception and presentation of an expository route representative of the region, the outlining of a strategy of valorization and preservation of the dispersed heritage, and the launching of cultural and animation activities that leverage new dynamics and territorial development. It could serve as a basis for future studies that propose to measure the various levels of impacts generated by this Museum in its Territory and the perception that the outside has of it.
