Abstract(s)
cruzeiros no destino Douro.
ABSTRACT: Cruises are a component of the leisure tourism industry (Dowling, 2006). A cruise ship is a means of transport for this type of travel. The perspective of the cruise market depends very much on consumer habits and attitudes towards travel. Currently, cruise ships are improving in size and comfort, giving greater attention to quality of life and to enjoying. Most modern cruises feature on-board facilities, which include restaurants, bars, gyms and entertainment venues. Cruises, which are increasing in popularity, are ideal for family travel and group travel (CLIA, 2016). In the tourism industry, previous studies analyze the history of cruises and their economic effect (Brida & Zapata, 2010; Dwyer & Forsyth, 1998; Mescon & Vozikis 1985). Recent studies have paid more attention to the perceptions of environmental impacts and the sustainability of cruise tourism (Carić & Mackelworth, 2014; Jones, 2011a; Klein, 2011). When analyzing this type of tourism, one should highlight the financial part of the sector, to understand how this affects the region where this type of activity takes place. This is crucial if improvements are to be implemented and this industry developed sustainably. Cruise tourism in the Douro region is of great importance to make known the potential of the region, so it should also be studied, so that the region becomes increasingly attractive. These studies should contribute to the creation of dynamics that make it possible to achieve goals that will positively influence several other factors besides the economic ones. With this project is intended to develop a dissertation, which aims to study cruise tourism in the Douro region, an essential product in the promotion of the same, as a tourist destination, in order to understand what the cruisers take most into account when choosing this destination. For this purpose, a questionnaire was constructed and applied. Two hundred and forty-two people participated in this study. Observing the results of the same it was possible to perceive what the travel habits, the motivations of the decision process, as well as the sociocultural, economic and environmental impacts of cruise tourism in the destination Douro.
