Abstract(s)
The present study aims to evaluate and characterize the integration of augmentative and alternative communication systems in the families of children with cerebral palsy. In this sense, families of 28 children with cerebral palsy were used. The defined inclusion criteria point to the benefit of accompaniment of Speech Therapy and attend the preschool or the 1st cycle of basic education. A questionnaire was drawn up in four parts, the first one collects socio-demographic data, a second part related to diagnosis and support, a third part that collects data on the communicative profile of the child and a fourth part on the use of augmentative and communication alternatives. Through the analysis of the data obtained it is possible to conclude that the introduction and monitoring of the implementation of augmentative and alternative systems of communication in the families by a specialized technician is fundamental so that later the children can use them in other contexts. Family involvement becomes central to the success of an intervention in the area of augmentative and alternative communication.
