Abstract(s)
TikTok is a platform based on short videos, which over the years has gained popularity among younger people. Social media has become a central part of young people's lives. This influence can be both positive and negative, depending on several factors, including how young people use platforms, the type of content they consume and the interactions they have. In this sense, this dissertation aims to explore the use of TikTok by students at the Instituto Politécnico da Escola Superior de Educação de Viseu (ESEV), taking into account the social network most used by students, the types of content consumed and shared, the motivations that lead to its use, the achievement of the flow state and the existence of a feeling of belonging in students. The present investigation is a case study using a mixed methodology, using interviews and a questionnaire survey of ESEV students. 125 valid responses were obtained through a convenience sample and structured interviews were carried out with 6 ESEV students. This study provides evidence that proves that the social network most used by ESEV students is Instagram. Regarding the use of TikTok, students prefer consumption and not so much sharing content, being motivated above all by the entertainment and fun that the platform provides them. When using TikTok, they often lose track of time, entering a state of flow, sometimes feeling addicted to the platform, however students do not feel like members of the TikTok community.
