The nuclear family plays a crucial role in household life, as it is through relationships and values transmitted by it that children learn to interact with the world around them. However, poverty and social exclusion can affect family dynamics, leading to isolation and delay in the emotional, social and cognitive development of children and young people. It is important to recognize that poverty is not only about the scarcity of economic resources. Therefore, it is fundamental to adopt participatory and people-centered approaches to combat social exclusion and inequality, valuing the family as an agent of change. This Internship Report describes the project implemented at the Viseu District Nucleus of EAPN Portugal (European Anti-Poverty Network), which had as its main objective to analyze the reality of families in contemporary Portuguese society. The project was developed around three primary measures: (i) Implementation of the Photovoice Project – Portraits of Family Life: Challenges, Achievements, and Recommendations; (ii) Participation in training sessions, practical workshops, Interculturality Week, and associate meetings; (iii) Collaboration in initiatives by EAPN Portugal partner entities. The implementation of Photovoice allowed for the expression of the participants' experiences, revealing the main challenges and achievements of the families, such as the difficulty in reconciling professional and personal life and the fight against social stigma, but also the importance of community support and local networks. Concrete recommendations were produced, aiming at the reinforcement of public policies to support parenting and raising awareness of the diversity of family structures. This document presents the entire intervention process, from diagnosis to project results, identifying the potential and difficulties encountered along the way, as well as the relevance of psychosocial intervention with at-risk children and young people in the addressed area.
