Abstract(s)
Abstract: This study aimed to characterize and explore alcohol consumption (beer, wine and spirits) in a Portuguese sample of 68 individuals in early adulthood, according to sociodemographic variables gender and age. Consumption were noted in percentages exceeding 50% in the overall sample (51.5%), in males (70%) and in the age group 22-45 years (55.6%). As regards the type of beverage, highest values were verified in wine, beer and followed finally by spirits, in the youngest age group (17-22 years), while in older (≥22 years) beer occupied the first place in consumption. Gender differences were recorded with greater male consumption. There were no age differences, despite higher rates of consumption in older (≥22 years). The severity of the problem in terms of public health requires early, structured and integrated interventions, as well as an ongoing educational work.
