Abstract(s)
This report describes the work carried out as part of the internship for the Master's Degree (2nd Cycle) in Psychosocial Intervention with Children and Young People at Risk, at the Escola Superior de Educação de Viseu. The internship was carried out in a CPCJ in the Centre of the country, which intervenes in the problems that exist in certain family structures, resulting in situations of mistreatment of children and young people. Currently, there is widespread awareness of child and youth abuse, amplified by strong media coverage and the frequent occurrence of cases. On the other hand, there is sometimes limited knowledge about the work of those who deal professionally with this reality, namely the work of CPCJ technicians. The work carried out by CPCJ technicians is fundamental to guaranteeing the well-being and safety of children and young people who, due to their vulnerability, experience situations that constitute mistreatment and are consequently referred to the CPCJ for support. After carrying out this internship, we were able to conclude that there is still a lot of work to be done in terms of sensitising the community to the importance of reporting situations of mistreatment that may exist, thus preventing these situations from developing into something more serious. We also concluded that it is important to educate the community about the true functions of the CPCJ, thus helping to minimise the lack of knowledge about it.
