Abstract(s)
abordagem do tipo qualitativo.
socio emocional, comportamental e social neste caso concreto.
Animal Assisted Therapies (TAA) is an emerging and clearly expanding activity in Portugal. Several professionals are already involved in it, both in education and health. This dissertation focus on the benefits of dogs in therapy, since the dog is the most used animal in TAA in the world. The study was developed to answer the question: Does Animal Assisted Therapy influence emotional expression, social interaction and behavioral regulation for X-Fragile syndrome? From the methodological point of view, this study uses a qualitative approach, following a Case Study model. The subject of the case-study is a 19-year-old male student diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome. Three TAA sessions with the subject were observed, using a naturalistic observation protocol, document analysis and interviews with all involved in this process were conducted: the parent; the teacher and the therapists. The results suggest that Dog Assisted Therapies have an impact on socio-emotional, behavioral and social development in this particular case of Fragile X syndrome. Notwithstanding the promising results, which essentially converge with the scientific literature, the conclusions point out the need for further research in this area, as well as awareness-raising about AAT in inclusive contexts.
