Abstract(s)
Abstract Introduction: This report sets out, firstly, the skills acquired and activities carried out during the internships and, secondly, the research report. Objective: To evaluate whether there is a relationship between competences the care practice environment and the level of stress experienced by Immediate Life Support (ILS) ambulance nurses. Methodology: Quantitative, descriptive and correlational cross-sectional cohort study. Sample of 57 SIV ambulance nurses in mainland Portugal, mostly male (63.2%) and with an average age of 39.56±6.24 years. Three scales were used in this study: i) the Ambulance Nurse Competencies (ANC) Scale, adapted by Camelo and Martins, 2022; ii) the 21-item Anxiety, Depression and Stress Scale (EADS) by Lovibond and Lovibond; and iii) the ‘Quality Indicators of the Nursing Practice Environment (IQN-WE-PT)’ scale, adapted by Sousa, 2021. Results: Medical emergency, accident, crisis and exception situations obtained the highest score (84.83%), reflecting the greater competence perceived by ILS ambulance nurses in this area. In contrast, Research and professional development had the lowest score; a higher average level of stress (3.37±2.57). The indicator with the highest value was ‘Team support and professional development’ (42.77±7.97) and the lowest ‘Safe working environment in nursing’ (15.30±4.30). Conclusion: The study shows that organisational support emerges as a key factor in the positive self-perception of ILS ambulance competences. Effective work systems and adequate remuneration were predictors of nurses' well-being and professional performance. Keywords: Nurse; Ambulance; Competences; Stress; Medical-Surgical Nursing.
