Abstract(s)
This dissertation seeks to create an e-book about a project developed by researchers from the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu of the School of Education in the field of Media Literacy, where the main objective of this work is to explore the potential of an e-book as a tool for disseminating results. Therefore, this dissertation starts from the question "What characteristics can an e-book have for the dissemination of science, namely the results of the project on Media Literacy in Higher Education?", these characteristics involve transforming contexts that are initially more complex into simpler data for an easier understanding by the public. In this way, the research seeks to understand how e-books can be used to disseminate science, organizing information in a way that is accessible and understandable to the general public. In the literature review, the role of media and new technologies in the democratization of access to science is addressed, with emphasis on e-books, which offer interactivity, accessibility and flexibility. In addition, the challenges of science communication are discussed, as well as the complexity of the contents. The methodology adopted is based on Design-Based Research (DBR), and the practical project focuses on the elaboration of an e-book, where the results and conclusions that were obtained within the scope of the project developed on Media Literacy in Higher Education are disclosed. The framework-to-innovation typology guided the development of the ebook, incorporating feedback from some experts selected to participate in the work. The study was developed in four phases: from a first draft – where the first steps in the design of the e-book were taken – through tests with experts, for the implementation of the suggestions received, to the presentation of the final proposal that resulted in a more coherent, attractive and professional design. With the elaboration of this dissertation, it is concluded that e-books are a current and useful tool with regard to the dissemination of science, making the content more accessible and understandable to all. Thus, this project reinforces the importance of adapting digital tools in the dissemination of knowledge, increasing access and facilitating the understanding of more complex scientific topics.
