A globalização e a facilidade de comunicação e movimentação que lhe está associada continua a caracterizar o século XXI e essa realidade afeta também as línguas, que estão em maior contacto umas com as outras, logo são supranacionais e adaptam-se aos contextos, às culturas, às realidades vividas pelos seus falantes. A língua portuguesa não é exceção e apresenta diferentes normas com estatutos diferentes, em função das relações de poder económico, político, cultural que se estabelecem entre elas, pelo que a variação intralinguística que apresenta faz dela uma língua pluricêntrica. O estudo que aqui apresentamos parte deste pressuposto. Foi desenvolvido no ano letivo de 2021/2022, numa escola superior de educação portuguesa, tendo como participantes 23 estudantes de um curso técnico superior profissional, no âmbito de uma unidade curricular de língua portuguesa. Tínhamos como objetivos i) identificar as representações dos participantes quanto à variação e difusão da língua portuguesa e ii) compreender o modo como os participantes sentem a língua portuguesa. A consecução destes dois objetivos permitiu-nos refletir sobre propostas didáticas no âmbito da educação em português promotoras da sensibilização para o caráter pluricêntrico da língua portuguesa. Para isso, recolhemos dados através de reflexões desenvolvidas num fórum de discussão online e de respostas a um questionário2 de escolha múltipla enquadrado num jogo online (kahoot). A análise de conteúdo que realizámos permitiu-nos identificar a necessidade de um maior aprofundamento dos estudantes relativamente às características de variação e difusão da língua. Apesar disso, os estudantes apresentam uma relação afetiva com a língua portuguesa e de constatação da sua presença no mundo, sob diferentes roupagens, que resultam na sua enorme riqueza. Estes resultados levaram-nos a refletir sobre a necessidade de promoção de uma sensibilização por parte dos estudantes sobre o caráter pluricêntrico da língua portuguesa.
Globalization and the ease of communication and movement associated with it continue to characterize the 21st century and this reality also affects languages, which are in greater contact with each other, therefore they are supranational and adapt to contexts, cultures, to the realities experienced by its speakers. The Portuguese language is no exception and has different norms with different statutes, depending on the economic, political and cultural power relations that are established between them, so the intralinguistic variation it presents makes it a pluricentric language. The study that we present here is based on this assumption. It was developed in the academic year of 2021/2022, in a Portuguese higher education school, with 23 students from a higher professional technical course as participants, within the scope of a Portuguese language curricular unit. Our objectives were i) to identify the participants’ representations regarding the variation and diffusion of the Portuguese language and ii) to understand the way in which the participants feel the Portuguese language. The achievement of these two objectives allowed us to reflect on didactic proposals in the context of education in Portuguese that promote awareness of the pluricentric character of the Portuguese language. For this, we collected data through reflections developed in an online discussion forum and responses to a multiple choice questionnaire framed in an online game (kahoot). The content analysis that we carried out allowed us to identify the need for a greater understanding of students regarding the characteristics of variation and diffusion of the language. Despite this, students have an affective relationship with the Portuguese language and a realization of its presence in the world, under different guises, which result in its enormous wealth. These results led us to reflect on the need to promote awareness on the part of students about the pluricentric nature of the Portuguese language. Keywords: Pluricentrism
