Abstract(s)
The critical analysis is part of the Master's Degree in Teaching in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education and in Mathematics and Natural Sciences in the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education, in which supervised practice is a fundamental component of teacher training. The supervised practice allowed for the connection between theory and practice, the development of pedagogical skills, and critical reflection on interventions in real-life contexts. In the qualitative study conducted, the use of manipulatives in learning operations with fractions was investigated in 5th-grade students of the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education through seven tasks involving manipulatives. The results showed that the use of these materials facilitated the understanding of operations, the transition between mathematical representations, and the development of generalizations. It is concluded that the intentional and planned use of manipulatives, combined with other didactic strategies, contributes to more meaningful learning. The supervised practice and the study reinforce the importance of experience in real-life contexts and of concrete resources in mathematics teaching.
